Getting Pet Hair Out of Your Car for Good

Pet hair weaves into carpet and seat fabric. Here is why a vacuum alone misses it and how an interior detail gets it out.

Why pet hair is so stubborn

Short, stiff dog hair works its way into carpet and fabric like tiny needles. A regular vacuum pulls the loose hair off the top and leaves the rest woven in.

Dust makes it worse, because the hair holds on to it.

What works

Rubber brushes and pet hair tools lift the hair out of the fibers first. Then a thorough vacuum and a carpet and seat cleaning take out what is left, along with the dust and smell.

The cargo area and the back seat usually need the most time.

Keeping it under control

A seat cover or a washable blanket in the back makes a big difference. Give the car a quick vacuum every week or two.

When it gets ahead of you, book an interior detail and mention the pets so enough time is set aside.
